Explanation Text - Kecak Dance

Kecak dance

    • Kecak dance is a dance art originating from Bali. This dance art is sometimes performed by dozens of dancers who sit in a row to form a circular pattern and chant "cak, cak, cak!" with a certain rhythm and raised both hands.

This dance is usually performed by dozens of bare-chested men wearing urban checkered fabrics from the waist to the upper knees. Kecak dance was first introduced in several villages, one of which is Bona Village, Gianyar. However, it has developed throughout Bali and is always presented at events such as government and private festivals.

The Kecak dance is also called Rangang Sanghyang. In this dance it is possible to see several characteristics, namely burning coals, frangipani flowers, jingle bracelets, black and white scarves, masks and gifts, so the Kecak dance seems more sacred and mystical.

Watching the Kecak dance is possible in several places. One of them is the Luhur Uluwatu Temple and also Garuda Wisnu Kencana. During this pandemic, the Kecak dance is a little different. Dancers use PPE and are also required to maintain sufficient distance from the audience to prevent the corona virus.
